Join us for our first Secondary ELA Professional Learning Webinar of 2024-25 school year. See attached flyer.
Thursday, October 11 from 4:00 - 5:00pm
Style: Grammar Instruction through the Backdoor
with Dr. Deborah Dean, BYU Professor of English
Webinar Description: Grammar for grammar’s sake doesn’t usually appeal to our students. But if they know style—that the ways they use words can elevate their writing and give them control over it—they usually have more interest. There’s a reason for learning how words and sentences work and the effects different choices can have! In this session, participants will learn a pattern for setting up lessons on style that can help students learn elements of grammar that improve their writing. But through the backdoor.
All webinars are recorded and available for later viewing.

2024 Annual Core Standards Survey
Each year, the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) administers an annual survey seeking feedback from educators, parents, students, and other interested community members on Utah’s Core Standards. Core Standards serve as the basic knowledge, skills, and competencies each student is expected to acquire or master as the student advances through the public education system. The survey provides USBE with key insights into potential need for revision to the current standards. You can review the current core standards by visiting https://www.schools.utah.gov/curr/utahcorestandards. The survey will be open for 30 days, from July 23 to August 23 and the results are expected to be reported to the Standards and Assessment Committee on September 6, 2024. Thank you in advance for your engagement in this feedback process.
