Are you itching to integrate digital and multimodal writing in your ELA curriculum but not sure how to begin? Ready to move past text-based literary analyses, formulaic argument essays, and research projects? Curious about how to engage your students in composing in the kinds of genres that are most relevant in the 21st century? Let's explore how podcasts, infographics, memes, multigenre research projects, and other kinds of compositions can expand your students' writing competencies and invigorate your teaching!
This webinar invites you to remix your writing instruction by inspiring student writers to compose not only with words, but also with image, video, sound, color, and texture. It begins a conversation around how - and to what extent - digital tools and digital products can be used in the service of our students' writing development.
The first part of the webinar will draw on recent scholarship and real-world teaching examples to answer some common questions and concerns about the role of these kinds of texts in an ELA classroom. In the second part of the webinar, teacher participants will collaborate to "remix" a current writing unit or assignment. Each teacher will leave with concrete next steps -- and a practitioner-focused resource list -- for integrating digital and multimodal composition into their secondary ELA writing curriculum.
