Stay informed about all things Ethnic Studies in Utah. Learn exemplary ways to teach about history, culture, and diversity in the classroom, along with sharing great opportunities for students, teachers, and families in the community. Within the last legislative session of 2022, Senate Bill 244https://le.utah.gov/~2022/bills/static/SB0244.html was passed to incorporate Ethnic Studies into Utah's Core Standards and to review the contributions of Utahns of diverse ethnicities in the state. For a quick summary, view some Highlights of the Mandatehttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1I4Qs79swlbwuicwbPACK18eIP-PpwSAO/view?usp=sharing. The Ethnic Studies Commissionhttps://le.utah.gov/committee/committee.jsp?year=2022&com=SPEESC has been charged with making recommendations on how this goal can be achieved. In the previous meetings, the commission members have heard a lot from interest groups, community members, and educators regarding their thoughts on this bill's impact on education in Utah. These meetings are open to the public and welcome stakeholder feedback. The next commission meeting will be held after the 2023 legislative session.
