Explicitly Teaching Listening Skills with Dr. Katie Alford, Assistant Professor of Education, McKendree University
**Supports implementation of Speaking & Listening Standards 1-3
Listening is not a standard most ELA teachers spend quality time considering or even teaching. Listening, however, constitutes a good deal of the input students receive throughout their education. Improving students' listening is not just beneficial for students, but for teachers as well. That is why it is a vital skill that should be taught in the ELA curriculum and beyond. Listening skills develop over time and grow as listening tasks become increasingly complex, but few individuals are given support in how to improve their listening. Listening is a skill just like reading, writing, and critical thinking, but it's been long neglected.
Join this webinar to find out WHY teaching listening is essential to learning in the ELA classroom and perhaps more importantly HOW you can teach, provide practice and feedback, and then assess students listening in your classroom tomorrow. Let's bring listening instruction into the ELA classroom together.
