This interactive panel discussion delves into the creative processes behind 21st-Century Abe (www.21stcenturyabe.org), an innovative and multifaceted web-based project from the Rosenbach Museum & Library exploring the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln through historic documents, commissioned artistic interpretations, and visitor-generated content. This program offers a unique preview of the project before the full site officially launches on Feb. 12, 2009. The panel will include an interactive discussion about the relationship of art & history, modes of alternative storytelling, and the opportunities and challenges of web 2.0. About the Panelists: Nick Schonberger (Moderator): Nick Schonberger is project coordinator for 21st-Century Abe and senior editor of WORDS.BEATS.LIFE: Global Journal of Hip-Hop Culture (www.wblinc.org). Both allow him opportunities to explore American material life in all its capacities and explore methods of public history to a wide variety of audiences. Outside of these ventures, Nick actively comments on contemporary music and fashion for some highly regarded and well read websites. He is a graduate of the Winterthur Program of American Culture. Jennifer Childs: Jennifer Childs is the co-founder and Artistic Director of 1812 Productions (www.1812productions.org), a Philadelphia theater company dedicated to entertaining, educating and exploring a variety of issues through comedy. 1812 Productions has received countless Barrymore nominations and awards and has been cited as one of the "Best of..." by Philadelphia Magazine. 1812's Abe project will provide a humorous take on Lincoln; topics under consideration include Lincoln's own humor, his portrayal by his contemporaries, and the long tradition of comedians mining Lincoln for laughs. Matthew Fisher: Matthew Fisher is co-founder and President of Night Kitchen Interactive [www.whatscookin.com] , the award-winning design firm based in Philadelphia, PA which designed the 21st-Century Abe site. Founded in 1997, Night Kitchen Interactive's services include online learning, interactive exhibits, and marketing communications solutions. Some of their other projects include The Art of Storytelling (www.artofstorytelling.org), Franklin Remixed (www.franklinremixed.com), The Splendor of 18th-Century Rome (www.whatscookin.com/html/pma-rome /), and Lincoln's Crossroads (www.constitutioncenter.org/lincoln/). Kathy Haas: Kathy Haas is the Curatorial Assistant at the Rosenbach Museum and Library (www.rosenbach.org) and the research coordinator for 21st-Century Abe. A graduate of the Winterthur Program in American Culture, she has been at the Rosenbach since 2004, where she has been involved with projects ranging from cataloging collections to curating exhibits about Dracula. Anne Walsh: Anne Walsh works collaboratively with Chris Kubick on historically-based multimedia work under the name ARCHIVE (www.doublearchive.com). ARCHIVE works with a variety of formats and tools including performance lectures, spoken-word cds, video games, exhibitions, and works on paper. ARCHIVE's Abe project, tentatively titled "One Lincoln After Another," deals with discovering Lincoln through a series of short Webisodes involving spirit mediums, Rosenbach documents, sculptures made from Lincoln's death mask, a Lincoln presenter, and a trip to several Lincoln monuments.
