Exciting photo-stories of real kids - combined with Literacy Through
Photography questions - will keep your students fully engaged while
helping them to better appreciate cultural perspectives and global
issues. Using photography from celebrated photojournalist Joan S.
Klatchko, two videoconference programs will take your students straight
into the lives of other kids who live in the Australian desert and in
the rainforest in Borneo - - bringing the world right into your
classroom! Students will explore how kids - - just like themselves - -
interact with others and the environments in which they live.

A culminating project has students explore their own communities through
photojournalism. Our last videoconference is a collaborative session
where students share their work in an engaging mystery game! A
pre-project professional development seminar with Joan Klatchko will
help you integrate literacy through photography into your classroom and
work with your students through this inquiry-based process.

Spaces for interactive videoconference sites are limited and will be
available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Interactive
videoconference sites must have Internet2 connectivity and H.323
videoconferencing equipment. *We have reserved 3 spaces for MAGPI
schools and 3 spaces for other schools across the country/world.*
