Subject: [Science] USOE Science Instructional Review Opportunity

Dear Science Teachers,

As the start of the school year comes around, here at USOE we are planning for the Science Instructional Materials Review. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the process, this is where we review new materials for the classroom for alignment to the Utah Core Standards and ILO's for the RIMS online database. You will have a chance to see all of the latest publications and evaluate them for use in Utah classrooms. I am looking for CLASSROOM TEACHERS to participate in this review. (If you are University personnel or with informal education, I appreciate your interest, but we are looking to fill the need for classroom teachers at this time.)

The date for this review will be all day Monday, October 22, 2012 here at the Utah State Office of Education. Below are some answers to frequently asked questions:

1. Is there a stipend for this review?

NO, but we will provide you lunch while you are in attendance as well as free samples to take back of all of the books you review.

2. Will you reimburse for mileage?

YES! Anyone who is traveling over 50 miles will be reimbursed for their mileage expenses.

3. I am traveling from Southern Utah, is there an opportunity for housing?
YES, if you are traveling from Southern Utah, we will be able to provide you a hotel room for your stay to allow you to participate in the review.

4. I'm a teacher, is there substitute reimbursement available for my school?

YES, we do offer substitute reimbursement to help support your attendance.

We are going to have reviews in the following areas:

Biological Science (AP Biology, Biology, Anatomy Physiology)
Chemistry
Earth Systems and Environmental Science and Astronomy
K-5 Elementary Science
6th Grade Science
7th Grade Integrated Science
8th Grade Integrated Science
Physics

If you are interested and available, please email me (sarah.young at schools.utah.gov<mailto:sarah.young at schools.utah.gov>) back with:
