[NASAFACS] State Level CTE Content Standards Question

Kansas has pathway level standards and course by course competencies. We use the SCED five digit codes for the course identification and each course had standards and competencies. These are linked by CIP code to identify the pathway. It works well for us as we moved to a “college” like pathway model where courses from other pathways are included if the competencies/skill set is important to the pathway outcomes. For example, the FCS Nutrition and Wellness (08057) is under our Family, Community and Consumer Services, Health Sciences and Restaurant and Event Management pathways. Human Growth and Development, Culinary Essentials, Family Studies, Consumer and Personal Finance courses are all found in more than one pathway design. All FCS pathways (across three clusters) share intro and application courses. This encourages others seeing the CTE disciplines as partners. This collaborative work decreases duplication of course content and actually builds strong support for each other.

We are just in the process of adopting state CTE standards and that is the way that we are looking to adopt them for our area -- foundational and then in 4 "pathway" areas of study depending on the CIP used.

Hi all,

We are in the middle of discussing and re-writing our Montana CTE Content Standards (this is our current, and older, version: http://opi.mt.gov/Educators/Teaching-Learning/K-12-Content-Standards-Revision/Career-Technical-Education-Standards<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=http%3a%2f%2fopi.mt.gov%2fEducators%2fTeaching-Learning%2fK-12-Content-Standards-Revision%2fCareer-Technical-Education-Standards&c=E,1,jDFLcbOdRRLcyGtCUgvDToOqGEXmZLXmj4IRx5bB8WPs9YE1ppReIcC_9EEn1EYUnnS4r1hnqI46It4D6heXs0LEk_YXw0YymEe8nnJGhRFoduw0N4wb71c,&typo=1>). There is a discussion to move to Pathway Level Standards instead of CTE Content Standards (covering all CTE areas). Would you say your state follow pathway content standards? It’ll be helpful to know as this discussion continues.
