[NASAFACS] Information needed

Good morning,

I have attached the Food Science part of our new FACS Frameworks. In Minnesota, CTE teachers can meet the science, math or fine arts credit through CTE courses. However, new legislation states that CTE teachers who teach Food Science and want it to apply for required science credit must meet the Chemistry standards outlined in Minnesota State Science Standards. The only CTE teachers who don't have to show they are highly qualified in Chemistry is AG teachers.

Our neighbors in Wisconsin are allowed to offer Food Science and have it also applied toward Science graduation credit. Dr. Sue Turgeson, at Univ. of WI - Steven's Point has written Food Science curriculum (Learning ZoneXpress), provided trainings and could help you with more questions. Contact her at Susan.Turgeson at uwsp.edu<mailto:Susan.Turgeson at uwsp.edu> She was also national AAFCS T.O.Y. a few years back, before going to Steven's Point.

Subject: [NASAFACS] Information needed

Good Morning,

I hope you all are well. I am submitting a proposal to add our middle school FACS programs programs back into our schools as well as adding Food Science or Chemistry of Foods to our list of offered courses. If you would not mind and if you offer these, would you share a copy of what those programs look like in your state? Also, we are adding Food Science and Nutrition and Dietetics as a pathway and I have submitted a request to consider it be added under FCS, they are currently looking to add it under AG ( Food Science) and Health Services (Nutrition and Dietetics). If you have anything to share in regards to how your state handles this, please share as well.

Thank you all so much. Hope to see you all in Dallas.
