*Dear Friends & Colleagues,*

*I just wanted to wish you a Happy Summer and share some good resources for
your patrons, students and families. As you plan activities around the
Eclipse (August 21, 2017) <https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/>, be mindful that
not everyone may see the event the same way you do. I encourage you to read
the open letter for librarians and teachers noted below.*

Subject: Upcoming Eclipse -- A Native American Perspective

Good morning,

American Indians in Children's Literature is pleased to share a letter from
Naomi Bishop, currently the president of the American Indian Library
Association, about the upcoming solar eclipse. As she noted, many libraries
are developing programming around it. She offers some resources and
cautions, too, with respect to Native peoples and the eclipse.

Some of you have shared it on Facebook. It would be terrific if you are
able to share your nation's views on eclipses. If you want to submit them
as a comment, please do. Or if you'd rather just send me an email, I'll add
