[Library Media] UELMA Board Voting / Conference Registration Open Shortly for March 20th Conference Date

It is time to elect the UELMA board members. There are three board
positions open as well as the President-elect. The candidate biographies
are below. Once you've read through them, please click on the link below to
vote. The voting window is January 12th through the 15th. Yes, please
don't put this off - voting closes on Thursday.
Also, look for conference registration to be open in the next day or two.
We are just inputting the fabulous lunch choices into our new registration

UELMA Candidates - 2015-2016
Sonya Miles-Ralphs is from St. George and loves all the beautiful country in
Utah. She is the Library Media Specialist for Eastmont MS and has two
Eastmont Middle School students....go Patriots!
She attended Dixie State College for her Associates Degree, and then
graduated from SUU in Broadcasting and Marketing. She worked in
Broadcasting for 4 years; 2 years at a Fox-13 affiliate station and 2 years
at KUED. She went back to school to obtain her teaching degree in
Journalism, Marketing, then attended USU for a MS Degree in Instructional
Technology and a Library Media Endorsement.
Sonya taught in Nephi for several years, including the Library at Juab High
School. She was a Trustee for the Nephi City Library for 6 years and served
in Friends of the Library a year prior to becoming a Trustee. She enjoys
video, photography, tennis, racket ball, volleyball, laughing, water sports,
snowboarding, technology, and (of course) reading.
Selena Campbell M.Ed. is the Teacher Librarian at Northridge High School in
Layton, Utah. Her professional mantra is "Literacy = Empowerment". Known
for vicious weeding abilities early on in her career, the Northridge Media
Knight Library won the 2013 Utah Best of State for Library Community
Development award for utilizing volunteers to help bring the Media Knight
Library up to 21st-Century collection standards.
Selena is the current secretary of the Davis Teacher Library Association,
teaches Junior Advisory and Media Skills classes, advises three
non-curricular high school clubs creates the quarterly high school digital
newspaper, and is an active member of the ALA (American Library Association)
and the YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association).
Selena has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems and
received her School Library Media Endorsement from Utah State University.
She is proud to be a military spouse and the mother of 4 children.
In her leisure time you can often find her perusing her Goodreads account,
keeping up in her social networks, techno-dabbling and off-course reading
several good books at once!
Steve Irving is an assistant professor of Library Media at Southern Utah
University since 2010. He received his BS in Philosophy from Oakland
University, MLIS from Wayne State University, and a graduate certificate in
Digital Media Management from the University of Arizona. Steve has taught
students from kindergarten through graduate students and recently became the
interim director of the LM program at SUU and works as the electronic
resources librarian. Steve's interests also include intellectual freedom,
library instruction, and instructional design. Steve spends his free time
meandering in the canyons and mountains of Southwest Utah.
Sarah Herron -- President Elect
Sarah Herron has been a Library Technology Teacher in the Salt Lake School
District for the past 10 years for both a middle school and two high
schools. Before earning her teaching certification with an emphasis on
Educational Technology, Mrs. Herron was employed as a Computer Lab
Supervisor in an elementary school for 8 years. She has earned a Master's
degree from the University of Utah in Instructional Design and Educational
Technology and has endorsements in ESL and Library Media. Being a librarian
is the perfect job for her since it combines her loves of using technology
in schools and reading as much as she can.
