School Library Month The Celebration Continues!

 Make the Case for School Library Programs During School Library Month A
new series of webinars, presented by members of the AASL Advocacy
Committee, will explore critical questions currently facing the school
library profession. Presented in a new 20 minute format, these webinars
focus on a single topic and will cover the AASL advocacy tools attendees
need to most effectively promote their program. Reminder! Register by 6:00
p.m. tonight for A Space vs. A LEARNING
place Wednesday, April 24. Don't forget to mark your calendars and
register for Strong School Library Programs Build Strong
place Tuesday, April 30.

 Scott Middle School educators win Collaborative School Library Award The
“Make a Difference” research project team from Scott Middle School in
Lincoln, Neb., is the 2013 recipient of the AASL Collaborative School
Library Award. The team – consisting of Jean Hellwege, school librarian,
and sixth-grade teachers Kim Ridder, Debbie Beran and Eric Nelson – sought
to improve an existing research project in the sixth-grade reading and
writing curriculum, which teaches the research process and how to write a
research paper. They also wanted to engage students in something
meaningful. Read

 Scott Bacon receives Distinguished School Administrators Award Scott
Bacon, principal of Blue Valley high school in Stilwell, Kan., is the 2013
recipient of AASL's Distinguished School Administrators Award. Bacon was
nominated by school librarian Ken Stewart, who wrote “During Scott Bacon’s
nine-year tenure as principal of Blue Valley High School, he has
continually supported and promoted the library program for the value it
brings to our students’ academic success and personal growth. I believe
that Scott sees us (the library) as a highly positive means to integrate
current and future trends (through an active library program) in education
into the daily instruction of our students.” Read

2013 Celebration takes place on April 30 - have you registered your library
