Dear Librarians,

*Día de los Niños, Día de los Libros / Children's Day, Book Day* (also
known as DIA) is just around the corner – *April 2013*. Are you planning an
event at your library? Would you like to plan activities for DIA but don’t
know where to start? The State Library can help!

The State Library is offering Mini Grants to help you plan and conduct DIA
events or activities in your community. To get all the juicy details
(including the grant application & ideas for activities) go to:

Here are the basics:

throughout the Beehive State
-- There are 30 mini grants available
-- The mini grant amount is up to $500
-- Applications deadline is February 15, 2013
-- Notifications will be done by February 20, 2013
-- Allowable use of funds include: Advertising; Expenses to bring an
author, poet, educator, trainer, or presenter; Educational material;
Supplies, printing, and postage. Sorry, FOOD OR REFRESHMENTS ARE NOT
-- The desired results (outcomes) for a DIA Mini Grant Project include:
+ Celebrate children and connect them to the world of learning through
books, stories and libraries.
+ Nurture cognitive and literacy development in ways that honor and embrace
a child’s home language and culture.
+ Introduce families to community resources that provide opportunities for
learning through multiple literacies.
+ Recognize and respect culture, heritage and language as powerful tools
for strengthening families and communities.

If you’d like to hold an event or activities with one or more of these

The State Library is proud to join the Children’s Literature Association of
Utah, Salt Lake County Library Services, Salt Lake City Public Library, and
KUED, for *The Scieszka Fiesta*, a literacy extravaganza event featuring
award-winning author Jon Scieszka on Saturday, April 27,, 2013 from 10:00
AM to 12:30 PM at the Viridian Event Center, in West Jordan, Utah.

We encourage you to apply for a mini grant, hold your own DIA event or
activity in your community any time during the month of April 2013 and let
your kids and parents know about *The Scieszka Fiesta*. It will be an event
