Last night the Utah State Legislature approved funding for a line item for
School Library Books and Electronic Resources. They approved $400,000 in ongoing
funding and $200,000 in one-time-only funding.
This news is especially encouraging, following this current year's funding of
$400,000 in one-time-only money and $25,000 in ongoing funding.
There are people to thank and I will send out a list, with emails, later today.
I have a favor to ask, based on every instance of a legislator telling me, "I
never hear superintendents and principals asking for more money for school
libraries." Here is what I'm asking:
Please, if you haven't already, take the information you complied for emails to
legislators about how you spent the funding for school library resources and how
it helps students and teachers and, in your regular meeting with your principal,
give him or her that same information. If you don't meet regularly with your
principal, please start now.
I'll send the thank you information later today.
Finally, this was a TEAM effort. It makes no sense to go to the Legislature
without having you backing us up. I appreciate your efforts very, very much.
