EXCITING NEWS! - University of North Texas Master's Degree Program in Library Science is coming back to Utah
(VIEW as HTM)

 Exciting News! Are you interested in earning your MLS and becoming a librarian?
The University of North Texas Department of Library and Information Sciences Nevada-Utah Cohort MLS Program is coming Utah.  YES, UNT/LIS will be offering the Web Institute program to future librarians in the state of Utah in 2011.   Through this outstanding program, students can earn a master’s degree by participating in two four-day institutes.   YES!!! UNT will bring its ALA accredited master’s degree program and popular online format back to Utah.  Are you interested in learning about new information technologies –virtual reference, online storytelling, digital libraries, graphic novels, web site development, database management, metadata, or all about different types of libraries?    Would you like to earn a certificate in Youth Programming, Storytelling, Management, Health Information, or Digital Content Management?

Come hear about this fantastic program in person or by attending a virtual information session.  The next Nevada-Utah Cohort will begin in September 2011.  The Web Institute will be held at Utah Valley University in Orem, UT.  (September 2 - 5, 2011 and January 13 - 15, 2012) - with the remainder of the instruction delivered online via the Web.  Information sessions will be held in the Salt Lake City, Utah area during the first week of February.

You can earn your Master’s by participating in an 8 - days Web Institute and complete the rest of your degree online!  The Web Institute portion of the master’s program includes an orientation, technology training, and instruction in the Master’s program core courses, as well as time to socialize with your Institute classmates and faculty.  Students will enroll in the University of North Texas, Department of Library and Information Sciences blended learning program, a 36 credit-hour program combining: distance learning (on-line) courses delivered via the Web (at least two courses per semester for six academic semesters) in addition to the two intensive in-person four-day Web Institutes.

1.    Students seeking any School Library Certification, Graduate Academic Certification, or Certificate of Advanced Studies will also need to complete the Department’s Application.

B.    In order to complete the Application you will need:

1.    A statement stating your purpose and goals in applying to our program.  In your statement, include the nature of your interest, how you became interested in the field, your short– and long–term goals, the strengths that you would bring to the information profession, and how our program will help meet your career and educational objectives.

2.    A resume of both your academic and professional careers.

3.    Collecting the information above will help you quickly complete the Application.

C.    You must have three (3) letters of recommendation submitted for you.  Letters should be from former professors, or others, who can evaluate your academic qualification and from job supervisors who can assess your potential for success as an information professional.
