Subject: [library-media] Native American Perspective on Thanksgiving

Dear Colleagues,

November is Native American Month and Thanksgiving. I encourage you to look at the following resources and consider local Native Americans in your Thanksgiving displays.

The National Museum of the American Indian has published the beautiful 9-page booklet American Indian Perspectives on Thanksgiving. You can access the PDF at http://www.nmai.si.edu/education/files/thanksgiving_poster.pdf

A great Reading Rainbow book to consider is Giving Thanks: A Native American Good Morning Message by Jake Swamp.

Also, check out Debbie Reese's resources for teachers on her blog American Indians in Children's Literature. See: http://americanindiansinchildrensliterature.blogspot.com/2009/10/american-indian-perspectives-on.html
