Julie,

I use the model from Follett's "Tag of the Month" for equipment
(http://www.follettsoftware.com/sub/tag_of_the_month/). I put
district asset number and the serial number in the local notes tag
590. I also put that information in the copy record. I like being
able to search equipment by asset number. If there is ever a theft
which has happened here once it was helpful for the police report to
have all that information in the record. I have equipment templates
on MARC Magician and can catalog a piece of equipment in about 10
minutes (less if I'm not interrupted)

I have a large fine art print collection that is used by many
departments not just art. The art prints are separated from pictures
and charts and are cataloged as such (GMD is art reproduction,
picture, or chart) with a prefix of FAP for fine art prints and PIC
for pictures and charts. The 028 tag has ordering or replacement
numbers from Shorewood, etc. if they are damaged or lost. Again I
have created a template in MARC Magician that has subject headings
and measurements in place to speed the cataloging along.

As to pamphlets I do catalog some but I would be very selective in
why that decision is made. We have a travel academy that requests
and receives lots of travel brochures that they want students to
access. I have large, laminated envelops for all the countries for
which I have materials. The pamphlets are rotated through these
envelopes as the instructors bring new material. In the cataloging I
have in the 245 tag "Publications relating to Dubai" or whatever
country the material is from. In some cases I have listed the titles
of the pamphlets in the 740 tag but because of the fluidity of the
materials I have kind of let that drop. In tag 300a put the number
of pieces in the container.
