[library-media] library-media Digest, Vol 13, Issue 6 - publish a book

Hello All,

I have just returned from a workshop in southern Arizona where I saw a beautiful book (color photos) published through an on-demand published  company. Some of those books can be sold through Amazon.com or e-bay and you as author only have to pay for the one at a time published book - something like $3.50 per book depending upon the length of the book. You as the author decide how much to charge a purchaser. I was extremely interested because my husband and I have book ideas we would like to publish too. It seems like a much better option than search for an established publisher. I think the only trick would be - how do you get the public to know about your book in the first place.

If the person interested in publisher their book would Google print on deman, I think they could find something. The companies I know about are createspace.com, blurb and lulu.

I hope this helps.

Mary B.

Please remember that Utah residents are welcome to use the resources of Public Pioneer through your local public library and remember that it is not appropriate to post access codes on line.  Access codes are for the use of the person(s) to whom they are issued.
Thanks and enjoy the Pioneer resources.  Donna

"Beginning August 4, 2008, state agencies' hours of operation are Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and closed on Friday"Library colleagues,

I've had a student inquire about publishing a book she's written. I
know in the past I've heard of publishers that do that do that. Could
anyone share that information with me?

Thanks!!
Paula

Don't you just hate it when your rewards come and you absent at a training
or some such thing? Yesterday I was out learning to make DVDs with Adobe
Elements when a past student stopped by to show me the book he has published.
So instead of a reward in person I came back today to find his note which read,
"Look this up. This is how far I have made it. Dark Guardian by David Bluhm
at Amazon or Barnes and Noble."

In answer to Paula's question, he published it through Publish America.

Isn't there a local university that does private publishing and has
presented at UELMA, ULA, and UEA? Share with us all so we can share publishing
sources with our wannabe authors.
