Jordan District has a policy in place. It may be read in it's
entirety at http://www.jordandistrict.org/policymanual/p.php?id=107

The First Amendment of the United States Constitution guides the
Jordan School District library media centers in both selection of
materials and review of challenged materials. The First Amendment
states: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of
religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the
freedom of speech or of the press...” The steps requesting a book be
removed are spelled out. I believe this book would meet the criteria
to remain on the shelf.
Check ALA's web site. The courts have pretty much held that books
cannot be removed because an individual requests it. Their attitude
if you don't like the book, don't read it.
