The USOE has created a Life Skills document. It is an attempt to identify =
traits necessary in a well educated individual. It might be of interest =
to you to read the draft located at http://www.usoe.k12.ut.us/ =20
Click on Proposed Life Skills Document on the right side of page. =20

The document is divided into seven domains, the first being Thinking and =
Reasoning. Page 8 of the pdf file (page 1 of the Life Skills document) =
states:
"Thinking and reasoning are intellectually disciplined processes of =
actively and skillfully conceptualizing, accessing, applying, analyzing, =
synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated =
by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a =
guide to belief and action. . . Students will become independent thinkers, =
able to apply thinking and reasoning skills strategically to solve new =
problems."

Sounds like the Library Media Core to me. Perhaps school librarians should =
attend the public hearings to express the fact that we teach these skills, =
given sufficient time and resources. The focus group sessions are for =
educators and the public hearings for parents and concerned citizens.
