Dear Colleagues,

libraries. I am not sure if it is coming to every school or just

Subject: Fragile Tears Final Correction

"Fragile Tears," written by Dr. Alan Blain Cunningham, a lifelong resident
of American Fork, Utah, is a book about pet loss and the grief process. It
is directed to and written for youth. A complimentary CD of reflective and
healing music is also included.

Many youth first experience death and the grief process with the passing of
an animal companion. Often times the pet is a first best friend. Yet youth
have no grief counseling to guide them through the extreme sadness from the
loss of an animal friend. Hopefully this book and CD will help to provide
comfort.

In return, Dr. Cunningham asks for the school children to sign a petition
for a commemorative postage stamp and national memorial for the War Dogs of
Vietnam. Nearly 4,000 canine soldiers served in the Vietnam War yet less
than 200 returned home. At the end of the war they were considered
equipment and were euthanized. Today the war dog handlers still grieve the
loss of their canine companions and seek closure and recognition for the
courageous war dogs through commemorative postage stamps and memorials. Dr.
Cunningham will direct the signed petitions to the Postmaster General and
State Senators and Representatives. At the same time providing a worthy
cause and legacy for the school children.

Both Gail Johnson and Georgia Lautensock of the State Office of Education
support this project. Senator Orrin Hatch and Senator Robert Bennett are
also supportive of this cause.

Sincerely,
Alan Blain Cunningham PhD, DVM, MD
