SIRS UNVEILS OKMULGEE PUBLIC LIBRARY PRINT
***********************************************
SIRS unveiled its tenth print of the Okmulgee Public Library last week =
at
the=20
Oklahoma Library Association conference.=20

Located in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, this library is one of the largest
independently=20
financed libraries in Oklahoma and the first in the state to be built
entirely by city funds.=20
The Okmulgee Public Library or "Reading Room" was organized by the =
Okmulgee=20
Civic Club in 1905. It was located in two small rooms at the top of a =
long
flight of=20
stairs that currently houses a drugstore.=20

After various locations, ground was broken for the new building in 1922 =
and
the=20
library moved into the new facility in 1923. In 1983, the library was =
placed
on the=20
National Register of Historic Places.=20

SIRS UNVEILS BIRMINGHAM PUBLIC LIBRARY PRINT
*************************************************
SIRS unveiled the eleventh print in the SIRS Celebrates America's =
Libraries=20
Collection, the Birmingham Public Library, this week at the Alabama =
Library=20
Association conference.

In 1886, the Birmingham Public Library was established as an adjunct to =
the
city's=20
public schools. The library relocated to City Hall, but was destroyed by =
a
great fire in=20
1925. Two years later, a building of Indiana limestone with an imposing
neo-classical=20
design was completed and served as the central facility for 57 years. To
facilitate the=20
expanding collection and increased demand for services, a =
contemporary-style

structure was built in 1984 that connects to the original building.=20

>From a room not much bigger than a closet, the Birmingham Public Library
concluded=20
the 20th century as one of the largest and most respected library =
systems in
the=20
Southeast.

BOTH PRINTS CAN BE VIEWED FROM www.sirs.com.
