With the rapid growth of the Hispanic population in the United States it is
important for both Hispanics and non-Hispanics to appreciate the heritage of
these diverse people in this country. To reach a better understanding
between cultures, it is also necessary to recognize the problems facing
Hispanics. This month, SIRS RESEARCHER covers numerous aspects of Hispanic
heritage and their assimilation into American society. Articles included
for NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH are: "Defining a Heritage," "Hispanic
Diaspora," "Hispanics and the American Dream," "Baiting Immigrants:
Heartbreak for Latinos" and "Hispanics Are Pawns in the Game."

SIRS RENAISSANCE
******************
As the nation's varied Hispanic communities become more entrenched in the
patchwork of American identity, so too is the visibility of their
contributions and achievements in the arts and humanities. The SIRS
RENAISSANCE SPOTLIGHT, NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH, showcases this
evolving cultural force in articles such as "The U.S. Latino Presence,"
"Spanish is Spreading Northward in Florida," "Hispanic Broadcasting Shares
Soar on Merger News," "A Ray of Light for Hispanic Authors," and "Cultural
Disconnect Masks the Diversity of Latin Music."
