Especially for elementary teachers---
Died: Bill Peet, a legendary Disney artist and writer who drew indelible
characters including Dumbo, and wrote the screenplay for "101 Dalmatians,"
Saturday at his Los Angeles home after battles with cancer, heart problems
and pneumonia. He was 87.

Bill Peet was a favorite author of many picture books in elementary
libraries, including my personal favorite Big Bad Bruce. Bill Peet, an
autobiography, was a Caldecott Honor book in 1990. His passing is sad news
but his legacy will continure to enrich our literary lives. (Can you tell
he is a favorite of mine?) gml
