Good News! The Legislature has restored $18.5 million in FY2002 funding
that included the one-time monies for library media. Check with your
district for deadlines on spending. These funds will NOT be carried over
into the new fiscal year. These funds were designated by the Legislature
for library media materials. (See the letter dated May 18, 2001 for
guidelines and/or limitations.) I have received the impression that there
will be an audit of these monies.

I will try to keep you updated on legislative activities that impact schools
in general and library media in particular. Please keep your local
legislators informed of the need for good school libraries. School
libraries are the most efficient and economical way to provide quality
reading materials for students at all reading levels and interests.

Keep up the good work. gml
