Please take note of the following items.

Elementary---You should have or will shortly receive a copy of "Media Alert!
200 activities to create media-savvy kids" to use with the media literacy
strand of the K-6 core. Sue Lockwood Summers will be here in Utah for a
free, one day, hands-on, media literacy workshop. Please choose to come
either Thursday, October 25 or Friday, October 26, 2001. The workshop will
be at the Horizonte Center, 1234 So. Main, Salt Lake City, Utah from 9:00am
to 3:30pm (Lunch provided) Six (6) licensure points.
Space is limited. Reservations are required. Call DeeAnne McGuire
801-538-7586 or email dmcguire@usoe.k12.ut.us

Secondary---Two items. First, we will be holding an accreditation seminar
on Friday, November 2, 2001 at the South Towne Expo Center from noon to 3:00
pm. Lunch and the seminar are free but you must RSVP to DeeAnne McGuire
801-538-7586 or email dmcguire@usoe.k12.ut.us if you are coming for lunch.
Connie Amos and I will try to answer your questions concerning
accreditation, what we look for, what to worry about, what to do to prepare
for a visit, etc.
Second, some specific additional information is requested as part of the
annual accreditation report due at USOE by October 15. 1) Name(s) of
library media personnel, 2) total annual on-going funding in dollars, 3) the
average age of the collection, and 4) collection size, number of volumes.
Hopefully, administrators will seek your input for this information. In the
past it seems that the person filling out the report has just routinely
checked off the boxes without paying attention to what the standards really
say. This additional information will help us get a truer picture of the
libraries in the state.

Thanks to all of you for your hard work. You make me look good. gml
