Health Science Educators,

Now that school has started and hopefully you are settled in a bit, there are a couple of things that you need to be aware of.

First, I want to introduce myself. My name is Maren Hansen, and I am the new Health Science Education Specialist at USBE. Previously, I spent the last 19 years in Davis School District - 15 years as a health science teacher, and four years as a CTE Coordinator. I am still learning my new job, but am excited to be able to support health science educators in Utah. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or if I can assist you with anything.

Secondly, this is a reminder that in the 2017 Utah Legislature General Session, the law around Human Sexuality Instruction was changed and subsequently the Parent Consent form was also changed. Please be sure that the consent form you are using for your classes is the correct one, dated June 2018. Links to the law, form, and FAQ document are here:

  *   Law (R277-474)<https://rules.utah.gov/publicat/code/r277/r277-474.htm>
  *   Consent Forms<https://schools.utah.gov/curr/health?mid=908&tid=5>
  *   Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)<https://schools.utah.gov/curr/health?mid=908&tid=5>

Additionally, remember that you need to receive the Sex Education Law and Policy training every three years. That can be done through an online Canvas course. Here is the link: https://usbe.instructure.com/enroll/DENYGB Please be sure to keep track of when you have done this training.

Thanks for all you do for students. Have a great school year!
