December Math HYPE: 5 Practices for Orchestrating Productive Mathematics Discussions In order to make the secondary math HYPEs more accessible to teachers, we have changed the structure of the December Math HYPE. Instead of going to a class Thursday night, we have created an online module in Canvas for you to complete on your own time. This is due to feedback that teachers want to participate, but can?t make it to the class afterschool and would like an online option. In order to complete the class and receive credit that ?you attended?, you will need to self-enroll in the Secondary HYPE Canvas course: https://canyons.instructure.com/enroll/X99F9Y (if you self-enrolled for the previous math HYPE, you do not need to do this again) On the home page scroll down and click on the link for the Math Module. Click on ?The 5 Practices? and begin the module. The module will be available tomorrow, Thursday 12/05, after 5:00 pm Once you have submitted your final assignment, you will receive ?credit? in MIDAS for attending. You have until December 20th to complete the module for credit. This means there is NO MATH HYPE tomorrow (Thursday, 12/05) night. Please let us know if you have any questions. Requirements for secondary math endorsements (all levels) are found at https://www.schools.utah.gov/File/a7cfa956-7c76-4f49-a159-ae1473e9083d. The Utah Mathematics Endorsement Program (UMEP), based at USU, delivers courses required by secondary math endorsements. The courses are broadcast, statewide, at times conducive to teachers? schedules. Coupling a 25% off USU tuition waiver and the STEM Endorsement Incentive Program (cost reimbursement up to $1,200 per course), UMEP courses are little to no cost to participants. Some general information about UMEP is attached. The registration period for Spring 2020 Semester has begun. The courses available through UMEP in Spring 2020 are Calculus I, Multivariable Calculus, and Introduction to analysis. Other USU courses, not connected to UMEP, are also available (e.g., College Algebra, Trigonometry, Probability and Statistics). Several other courses will be offered in the summer. If you have general interest in UMEP or specific interest in any of the Spring 2020 Semester courses, please contact me for more information.
