Girls Who Code Clubs<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.girlswhocode.com_Clubs&d=DwMFAg&c=fGrSkuu3YyS91PacIZP0XfO0GRH7JgL5znLEO6-CQG0&r=hD1RgVtVAfjHqM6ipl7VgIa9sOnyksaDjm7Cex6HZqan_jJHJ-cb-QMyiG7IG6q9&m=83bKCeXTfe19pNLH19o7uZzZYSjZEyb--YPj52zm0dg&s=xZbrDdks0JTMHWdKo2sIRyCGv0THaugLysnfcDpgY6U&e=> are FREE after-school programs for 3rd-5th or 6th-12 th grade girls that offer a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models intent on changing the world through computer science. Clubs are led by Facilitators; these individuals can include teachers, computer scientists, librarians, parents, or volunteers from any background or field. Many Facilitators have NO technical experience and learn to code alongside their Club members.

  * 6th-12 th grade Clubs program: Here’s an overview of the Clubs curriculum<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__3zjc852t4swp1lmezl171oga-2Dwpengine.netdna-2Dssl.com_wp-2Dcontent_uploads_2018_06_Clubs-5FCurriculum-5FFlyer-5FFinal.pdf&d=DwMFAg&c=fGrSkuu3YyS91PacIZP0XfO0GRH7JgL5znLEO6-CQG0&r=hD1RgVtVAfjHqM6ipl7VgIa9sOnyksaDjm7Cex6HZqan_jJHJ-cb-QMyiG7IG6q9&m=83bKCeXTfe19pNLH19o7uZzZYSjZEyb--YPj52zm0dg&s=UmIzXy1OZfqAHPw6vYtz_aJ6irN0qXSNiquRNmvwzbg&e=> that focuses on a Girls Who Code Project where girls work in teams to solve a real-world problem they care about through code.
  * 3rd-5th grade Clubs program (NEW!): This fun and engaging curriculum follows a book-club model in which students learn from Girls Who Code’s best-selling book, Learn to Code and Change the World<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.amazon.com_gp_product_042528753X-3Ftag-3Drandohouseinc7911-2D20&d=DwMFAg&c=fGrSkuu3YyS91PacIZP0XfO0GRH7JgL5znLEO6-CQG0&r=hD1RgVtVAfjHqM6ipl7VgIa9sOnyksaDjm7Cex6HZqan_jJHJ-cb-QMyiG7IG6q9&m=83bKCeXTfe19pNLH19o7uZzZYSjZEyb--YPj52zm0dg&s=CeYUiuizY5lvhVcimHCqqYKPbhL2DXueFAl3TLG0LxU&e=>, and participate in interactive activities that can be run completely offline with optional online activities.

To learn more about Girls Who Code programs, you can sign up for a Girls Who Code Webinar here<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.eventbrite.com_o_girls-2Dwho-2Dcode-2D15707655262&d=DwMFAg&c=fGrSkuu3YyS91PacIZP0XfO0GRH7JgL5znLEO6-CQG0&r=hD1RgVtVAfjHqM6ipl7VgIa9sOnyksaDjm7Cex6HZqan_jJHJ-cb-QMyiG7IG6q9&m=83bKCeXTfe19pNLH19o7uZzZYSjZEyb--YPj52zm0dg&s=8BIIia5mUrSt8CVajCujHRpPMQgq8zWKuPCO_1cI-88&e=>.

To start a Club, you need:

  * Space to host the Club
  * Computers and internet for each Club member in the 6th-12 th grade Clubs. (Sorry, tablets and phones are not allowed!)
Computers are optional for 3rd-5th grade Clubs, as only the Girls Who Code book is needed (Girls Who Code will provide a set of complimentary books.)

  * An adult who will be responsible for facilitating the Club using Girls Who Code curriculum for 1-2 hours each week. This Facilitator will also need to be in communication with Girls Who Code. No technical experience necessary – just a passion for the movement!

APPLY HERE TODAY!<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.girlswhocode.com_Clubsapply&d=DwMFAg&c=fGrSkuu3YyS91PacIZP0XfO0GRH7JgL5znLEO6-CQG0&r=hD1RgVtVAfjHqM6ipl7VgIa9sOnyksaDjm7Cex6HZqan_jJHJ-cb-QMyiG7IG6q9&m=83bKCeXTfe19pNLH19o7uZzZYSjZEyb--YPj52zm0dg&s=m0BsSAhALOlS-vN2wcwS_tyczPrbs9XeQF0qvgHvx10&e=>

STEP ONE: Fill out the 2018-2019 Clubs Application and Facilitator Background Check

Indicating Our Partnership Affiliation:

It’s important that you affiliate yourself with the Utah STEM Action Center in completing the Clubs Application**, as we are partnered with Girls Who Code.

**To receive our partnership benefits, you must list Utah STEM Action Center as your partner affiliation on the “About Your Club” section by searching for Utah STEM Action Center in the following question: Is your Club affiliated with a Girls Who Code Community Partner (school districts, library systems, nonprofit organization, afterschool networks etc.)? See below:

[cid:image002.png at 01D43607.22957C40]

Completing Your Background Check:

A Facilitator has two options to complete the background check process. S/he can either indicate that that they have already submitted to a background check as a condition of employment or they can submit to GWC’s background check process via Verified First. A background check verification template can found at http://bit.ly/2uzESqF<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__bit.ly_2uzESqF&d=DwMFAg&c=fGrSkuu3YyS91PacIZP0XfO0GRH7JgL5znLEO6-CQG0&r=hD1RgVtVAfjHqM6ipl7VgIa9sOnyksaDjm7Cex6HZqan_jJHJ-cb-QMyiG7IG6q9&m=83bKCeXTfe19pNLH19o7uZzZYSjZEyb--YPj52zm0dg&s=aU3QcfJVktf5Vd8J5J52VtEW6RxVyJigHjMInjj7JuA&e=>. The letter must be printed on school letterhead and signed by the principal before being submitted to Girls Who Code.

When the Facilitator completes the Clubs Application, they will receive a separate follow up email with next steps to either upload their documentation or begin the Verified First process. If documentation isn’t uploaded within a three-day window, the Facilitator will automatically receive an email from Verified First to begin the process. They can complete this portion by doing either of the following:

  1. Upload background check letter
  2. Fill out a Girls Who Code background check
  3. Returning Facilitators who have undergone a background check within the past 2 years with Girls Who Code do not need to complete another one.

Reach out to clubs at girlswhocode.com<mailto:clubs at girlswhocode.com> with any questions about this process.

STEP TWO: Applications are reviewed and approved on a rolling basis

Clubs receive email confirmation from clubs at girlswhocode.com<mailto:clubs at girlswhocode.com> within 5-10 business days.

Please note that emails from clubs at girlswhocode.com<mailto:clubs at girlswhocode.com> may end up in spam. Applicants should make sure to add clubs at girlswhocode.com<mailto:clubs at girlswhocode.com> to their email contacts to ensure that they receive emails from Girls Who Code.

Once approved, you will receive ongoing communication from Girls Who Code to ensure that you are ready to get started in the fall.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and thank you for supporting our partnership with Girls Who Code!

Best,

Erin Paulsen
