Subject: Good News and update! How to Learn Math Stanford MOOC by Dr. Jo Boaler Reopens for registration on Thursday

Due to the extremely high demand, we have opened 100 more spaces for the Jo Boaler MOOC.

On April 22, we announced that as part of the USOE Professional Learning Series we are offering a Massive Open Online Course from Dr. Jo Boaler, Professor of Mathematics Education at Stanford University. The course is entitled “How to Learn Math- Stanford MOOC”. We opened registration for this course on April 25 at 8:00 am. By the next morning the class was full. We added 25 seats to the course and they filled within a day. Therefore, we have decided to add another section of the course and allow another 100 currently active Utah educators to register.

Beginning on Thursday, May 5, at 8:00 am, currently active educators in Utah public schools will be able to register for the second session of the course. The USOE will gather the names and contact information for those registering and send them to Stanford to be registered as one cohort in the course. The USOE will pay the registration cost of $80 for up to 100 more educators. The registration information indicates that educators must carefully consider their participation in the course and make a commitment to complete the course work. Those who do not complete the course by September 30, 2016 will be asked to reimburse the USOE for the registration cost.

Registration will be accomplished through OnTrack. Interested educators may access the registration in one of two ways:

1. In OnTrack: Go to https://usoe.truenorthlogic.com/U/P/Tab/ProfessionalLearning?_ct=ProfessionalLearning<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__usoe.truenorthlogic.com_U_P_Tab_ProfessionalLearning-3F-5Fct-3DProfessionalLearning&d=CwMFAg&c=fGrSkuu3YyS91PacIZP0XfO0GRH7JgL5znLEO6-CQG0&r=hD1RgVtVAfjHqM6ipl7VgIa9sOnyksaDjm7Cex6HZqan_jJHJ-cb-QMyiG7IG6q9&m=OfmiJW-Aal_tBEceLOKJTuFYTaUHS1WVih1wXqvf9Gk&s=NJCJI-aQW1eoKik8aR5VfPX1BGHyOg3Z1JyP1KNc5gk&e=> and type in either course # 63723 or section # 78798.

2. On UEN: go to http://www.uen.org/pls/math-elem/. Find the Summer 2016 course, find the How to Learn Math- Stanford MOOC, and then click on Register on OnTrack and use the same course or section numbers as above.

Again, registration will not open until Thursday, May 5 at 8:00 AM and we will only accept 100 currently active educators in Utah public schools.

P.S. Any teachers who were on the waiting list for the first section as of 10:30 on May 4 have been registered in the course. There will be no waiting list for either section in this offering.
