This will be the last year USOE will be offering a summer academy. Allison & Mindy From: , Diana > Date: Wednesday, April 30, 2014 4:02 PM Subject: Standards Academy There are seats available at every one of the Secondary Math Standards Academy sessions this summer. After reading through the results of Math Survey, it is very clear to me that teachers need and want more professional learning centered on the core standards. This is our last Academy using the summer in-district delivery model. Please encourage your teachers to sign up before May 12 (which is when we will begin making decisions about cancelling/consolidating sections). Registration is now open to ALL teachers. For Students: Wednesday May 14 4:00-5:45 in LCB 22; game theory stuff (teachers are welcome too.) I attached a flier. Please pass on the information. Both will be led by Sam Vandervelde from Lawrence University. He's extremely engaging--and has won several awards. I can't encourage you enough to come. There will be food for the Tuesday evening one, so we're trying to get a head count. Let me know if you're planning on attending. The one for Wednesday would be great for students in your AP classes. We don't really need a headcount for that one. m -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is to help with vertical alignment between the tests. Please see below and the attached memo from the assessment department at USOE. Please let us know if you have any questions. Attached is a memo from the Utah State Office of Education about off-grade level questions on the SAGE exam. The memo explains that students WILL see questions on the SAGE exam that are off-grade level and off-course material this year. Students WILL NOT be graded on these questions and these questions WILL NOT affect a teacher's SGP score (student growth percentile). The memo explains the purpose of these questions and this will only happen for this year. Please do not teach a grade level ahead in order to "prepare" students for these questions. Please do warn students that they may see questions on materials they haven't learned and that they should try their best regardless of the question. Also, remember that next year we will be piloting the new teacher evaluation that you learned about on February 7th. So that while a teacher will receive an SGP score next year, the new teacher evaluation system will be not be officially in place until 2015 ? 2016. As always, please let us know if you have any questions. Allison & Mindy From: , Diana > Date: Monday, March 3, 2014 6:34 AM Subject: Verical Linking Items Please see the very important information attached from the assessment section at USOE. Your students WILL see off-grade and off-course material this year and the attached document explains why. Please prepare your students by letting them know this will happen and encouraging them to not become discouraged. As with any test, they should do their best where they can and not become stressed about items they do not understand.
