SCIENCE: SEEd Standards Special Session for Utah State Board of Education
The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) announced that there will be a special session of the USBE's Standards and Assessment Committee on May 24th from noon to 3pm. For this meeting, the only item on the agenda is to review and approve Draft 2 of the K-5 and High School Science with Engineering Education (SEEd) Standards (this second draft was completed by the SEEd writing teams following the 90-Day review and incorporates the feedback that was received). In the committee meeting, this USBE Sub-Committee (made up of 5 members of the full USBE board) will review Draft 2 of the SEEd Standards, make any desired changes, and vote to approve Draft 2 of the standards to move to the full board. If approved, the draft will then be forwarded and reviewed by the full board for final approval on June 6th.

SCIENCE: USBE Accepting Lead with SEEd Cohort Applications (attachment 1)
Science Teachers and Leaders,

We are happy to announce that applications are now opened for K-12 teachers, Science Coaches, and Science Specialists to apply to participate in the Fall 2019 cohort of Lead with SEEd. The objective of the Lead with SEEd project is to create a network of teacher leaders in charter schools and districts across Utah that can implement SEEd Standards with fidelity and support local science communities in this effort. While it is clearly understood that the K-5 and 9-12 grade SEEd standards adoption process is not completed, we are working to start building local capacity in the general principals and the vision for science teaching and learning described in the K-12 Framework for Science Education<https://www.nap.edu/catalog/13165/a-framework-for-k-12-science-education-practices-crosscutting-concepts> (the research base for the SEEd Standards).

Applicants must be able to commit to attending all the sessions and agree to provide leadership in their local community. Participants or their school/district will pay a one-time registration fee of $130 and will receive sub reimbursements, a $400 stipend, over $100 in books and supplies, and 3.0 USBE credits after all requirements are meet.

To apply, complete BOTH an Online Application<http://bit.ly/LwSAppFall19> and a Teacher/Admin Contract<http://bit.ly/LwSContractFall19> before 5pm on June 14th (Applicants that do not submit both an application and contract will not be considered).

Please review and share the attached flyer with the teacher leaders in your charter schools and districts.
