In January 2019, our USBE staff offered our first series of Equity Labs for LEAs across the state. These labs were designed to help LEAs meet the USBE objective of promoting equitable access to highly effective teachers. LEAs reported very positive experiences during this event and requested more opportunities of this kind.
To honor this request, our staff is offering Equity Lab 2.0, this time focused on increasing the participation of underrepresented student groups (e.g. gender, socioeconomic, ethnicity, race, ability, English language proficiency, etc.) in early college (AP, Concurrent Enrollment and IB) and career coursework. In similar fashion to the original Equity Lab, this one will focus on LEAs analyzing their own LEA and school-specific data in order to identify root causes to gaps in student performance, and constructing a theory of action that will lead them to a proactive plan to increase the participation of underrepresented student groups in early college and career coursework.
A request to your superintendent/charter director to put together a team of 3-5 representatives for LEAs interested in participating. We suggest selecting from the following positions:
* Charter Director
* District Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent
* District/Charter Administrator who oversees accelerated programs (i.e., AP/CE/IB)
* Title IX/Title VI/Title I and Section 504 Coordinator
* Equity Directors
* District/Charter Counselor Specialist
* High School Administrator
* AP/CE/IB Teacher Leaders
* Student Service Directors
* CTE Director
Our labs will be held across the state from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM at the following locations:
Box Elder School District
960 South Main
Division of Services for the Deaf and Visually Impaired
250 N 1950 W

We look forward to your participation! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! Thank you, as always, for your hard work in supporting Utah students!
