Subject: Pilot Program for OER Middle School Math Materials

Hi Kristi,
Would you forward this invitation to the Curriculum Directors?

The K-12 OER Collaborative is seeking school districts interested in piloting middle school math materials during the 2016-17 school year.

The math materials are being developed by Illustrative Mathematics, a non-profit led by Bill McCallum, one of the co-authors of the Common Core math standards. The materials are being developed to closely align with the standards, in addition to having built-in support for English language learners. The materials will be available in both print and digital formats, and feature resources for teachers, students, and families. Once complete, the materials will be released as an open educational resource (OER), meaning schools will be able to access the core digital materials at no cost.

The pilot will begin with 6th grade math materials, with 7th and 8th grade material becoming available later in the school year. Districts selected to pilot the print version will be supplied with print materials at no cost during the pilot.

In order to be considered for the pilot, school districts should have:

1. A strong leadership team (including superintendent, CAO, CIO, math lead, etc.) who are supportive of the pilot.

2. A high percentage of ELL and free & reduced lunch students. For both measurements, the Collaborative is looking for districts who are at or above the national averages.

The Collaborative is also interested in piloting the materials in schools that reflect a range of student demographics, district size, and geography (urban/suburban/rural).

If you are interested in participating, please email cedar.mathis at k12oercollaborative.org<mailto:cedar.mathis at k12oercollaborative.org>.
