The information below has been shared with Assessment Directors and may also be important to those of you with DLI programs.
1. Dual Language Immersion Assessment
As Dual Language Immersion (DLI) programs continue to grow in Utah, the USOE is working toward providing statewide assessment of a student's language proficiency in the identified target language. Currently, some schools utilize the ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) assessment offered through Language Testing International (LTI). The USOE is transitioning oversight of the AAPPL from Teaching and Learning to the Assessment and Accountability section over the coming months.
The AAPPL will not be administered during the spring of 2016 as we transition this assessment. Please begin working with your dual immersion team to determine the AAPPL point of contact for your LEA. In the coming weeks, more information will be distributed concerning this transition and the move of the AAPPL to a fall testing window.
Gregg Roberts in Teaching and Learning continues to provide oversight of the DLI program, as Julie Quinn in Assessment and Accountability prepares for a transition to a statewide contract for AAPPL and implementation/test administration in the fall of 2016. Please feel free to contact Gregg.Roberts at schools.utah.gov<mailto:Gregg.Roberts at schools.utah.gov> or Julie.Quinn at schools.utah.gov<mailto:Julie.Quinn at schools.utah.gov> with any questions related to this transition.
As this assessment impacts only those LEAs/schools with a DLI program, we will work to strike a balance in providing specific information to those LEAs/schools while keeping you as assessment directors in the loop generally. If you are interested in more information about the DLI program, details can be found at: http://www.schools.utah.gov/CURR/dualimmersion/default.aspx and http://www.utahdli.org/index.html. Information about the AAPPL can be found at: http://www.languagetesting.com/aappl.
