Curriculum Directors;

Please see this announcement regarding a major initiative to develop OER materials to support the Common Core Standards. If you have been using materials from OER providers that you think could expand their programs to take advantage of the funding that will be available through this program, please forward this email to them.

As Utah has been one of the driving states of this project, we will also have an opportunity to provider reviewers for the submissions that are gathered. If you or any of your faculty members might be interested in being part of this, do let Jennifer Throndsen (ELA), David Smith (mathematics), or me know so we can forward your names to be involved.

RFP Announcement | Call for Letters of Intent

Dear Interested Party:

The K-12 OER Collaborative, an initiative led by a group of 11 states with the goal of creating comprehensive, high-quality, open educational resources (OER) supporting K-12 mathematics and English language arts (ELA) aligned with state learning standards, is pleased to announce its Request for Proposals<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001CM2sSKMVhcq0QrjRtAbxcXgjvZCatr_f_6Yb-cnee36FVCVlGNqPaQeCieXxGcyMNhx2pc5oZWxXN-6dB0GwKsvebh8BNJO_d77s-GnFttL0_qHay8bR5fq7R4YTCFeCY4c15cxDaiX7eIowE5xFeYF1bickzcNjHQ7q47nl4e9zo_UiviBwVJaRXPoXLL-N&c=C1wZL3vxl_FgkqOCw5jfeUgEJRuT-z58RDSSjuLcM0bfGoPWMQ9Ebw==&ch=Ltlt-TPKihz_qUB9xsmIuk3fuTHQL6hn9C-P9ItGpyJOecseM29n8A==> (RFPs).

Standards-aligned curriculum for ELA and math is a critical need for teachers. Schools across the country are currently looking into new materials that better attend to the higher levels of cognitive function called out in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). This project's motivation is to help fill that need and provide a pathway for districts to take ownership in shaping content for their students. States can adapt these materials to meet their particular needs using their own channels of review and development. These resources will offer a technology-enabled option to local education agencies and significantly reduce expenditures for instructional materials.

The K-12 OER Collaborative will be selecting up to eight contractors for the creation of full-course OER in the following areas:

  *   K-2 English Language Arts/Literacy
  *   3-5 English Language Arts/Literacy
  *   6-8 English Language Arts/Literacy
  *   9-12 English Language Arts/Literacy
  *   K-5 Mathematics
  *   6-8 Mathematics
  *   9-11 Mathematics - Integrated/International Pathway (Secondary Mathematics I, II, III)
  *   9-11 Mathematics - Traditional Pathway (Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2)

The Collaborative is looking for successful contractors who will create or build upon existing OER that do the following:

· provide a comprehensive set of instructional materials

·         align to the CCSS

· follow the Publishers' Criteria to ensure the development of aligned content

· include strategies, activities, and resources that allow teachers to differentiate instruction

· include an assessment suite, including performance tasks with student work examples, formative assessment guidance, unit-level summative assessments, and rubrics to help teachers understand and interpret student performance

The resources will be evaluated by teams of educators from the participating states according to a number of well-established rubrics.

The initiative is supported by 11 states. Utah, Washington, and Idaho were the initial steering committee members. Other states supporting the project include Arizona, California, Minnesota, Montana, North Carolina, Nevada, Oregon, and Wisconsin. Supporting organizations include CCSSO<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001CM2sSKMVhcq0QrjRtAbxcXgjvZCatr_f_6Yb-cnee36FVCVlGNqPaQeCieXxGcyMWG9sM4MahqJTK8jyj67eFilhwiEmekh0N3O5PeT1s_Zkm6Kx1hNOCmi2AhWBz1z8dfnE5rqEjGBOf509Vy2sFtdxTHjxcVils0oOU7awH6U=&c=C1wZL3vxl_FgkqOCw5jfeUgEJRuT-z58RDSSjuLcM0bfGoPWMQ9Ebw==&ch=Ltlt-TPKihz_qUB9xsmIuk3fuTHQL6hn9C-P9ItGpyJOecseM29n8A==>, Achieve<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001CM2sSKMVhcq0QrjRtAbxcXgjvZCatr_f_6Yb-cnee36FVCVlGNqPaQeCieXxGcyMYdYCLfVOKrNiAhnCSqw6ytuWM7c-3sc96_appaW8vNBoNhT3lZ035hX4Qmcj6y4x3DaAfHmEhKPBScCE_8ywRlNIqgkyZDPW90E6vkJ6KEg=&c=C1wZL3vxl_FgkqOCw5jfeUgEJRuT-z58RDSSjuLcM0bfGoPWMQ9Ebw==&ch=Ltlt-TPKihz_qUB9xsmIuk3fuTHQL6hn9C-P9ItGpyJOecseM29n8A==>, Creative Commons,<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001CM2sSKMVhcq0QrjRtAbxcXgjvZCatr_f_6Yb-cnee36FVCVlGNqPaQeCieXxGcyM_caKD4P4U_Ghek4-SIej7sVdhqqY8mYL35tYXQy-lTQGtPtXF4Xg0JyCJ8aBIg1UQ2I4oNKIz4MN7NQHw49uc25v-d9A6py6fLUpwzhEZG48PuNxhfXSXw==&c=C1wZL3vxl_FgkqOCw5jfeUgEJRuT-z58RDSSjuLcM0bfGoPWMQ9Ebw==&ch=Ltlt-TPKihz_qUB9xsmIuk3fuTHQL6hn9C-P9ItGpyJOecseM29n8A==>Lumen Learning<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001CM2sSKMVhcq0QrjRtAbxcXgjvZCatr_f_6Yb-cnee36FVCVlGNqPaQeCieXxGcyMcBqrKFzXp9eYtBKCFe9r8ZsPt3TC5V3b23p8KwFU57cwvxuonFZo7R1TT8l3w8aOPIq_rt5rUoRFw_tx1h35442QvYgYCexCSDNWPh5fLGY=&c=C1wZL3vxl_FgkqOCw5jfeUgEJRuT-z58RDSSjuLcM0bfGoPWMQ9Ebw==&ch=Ltlt-TPKihz_qUB9xsmIuk3fuTHQL6hn9C-P9ItGpyJOecseM29n8A==>, and The Learning Accelerator<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001CM2sSKMVhcq0QrjRtAbxcXgjvZCatr_f_6Yb-cnee36FVCVlGNqPaaKhWAq6byxjouktWHW_ziGq5oAz3ioAM8b9BGrINwzRzkJApfDfM658zhFsZgjj9y8-2R-le7a9vLoo1Re0TZeeGK6tJX0bBv2dYMkXAUr1A3yMO6C2Sn98Bpc5X98lEg==&c=C1wZL3vxl_FgkqOCw5jfeUgEJRuT-z58RDSSjuLcM0bfGoPWMQ9Ebw==&ch=Ltlt-TPKihz_qUB9xsmIuk3fuTHQL6hn9C-P9ItGpyJOecseM29n8A==>.
