[Curriculum Directors] RTI workshop with Dr. Collier

Dear Administrator,

Please invite and support your teachers in attending this workshop.  USOE is offering relicensure hours and substitute reimbursement.

An invitation to participate in the second part of Dr. Catherine Collier's workshop RTI for Diverse Learners has been extended to you.  The Workshop will be held on January 16, 2013 at the Hilton Salt Lake City Airport.

Participation in the first workshop Separating Differences from Disability held on June 15, 2012, is not a requirement. A summary of the previous workshop will be provided.

During this second workshop Dr. Collier will show participants how to implement the most effective instructional strategies.  She will offer step-by-step guidance for distinguishing between language development and special education needs for diverse students.

Participation of district, school and/or combination teams is encouraged for sustainability and efficacy.

  *   Dr. Collier's books, materials, continental breakfast, and lunch will be provided
  *   Reimbursements for lodging will be provided for attendees who must travel over 50 miles one way to attend. (All travel and lodging arrangements are the responsibility of individual educators, schools, or districts).
  *   Substitute reimbursement offered to teachers (if they are not already being paid by school/district)
  *   Re-licensure points available

Dr. Collier requested each participant to bring the following student information on the day of the workshop. All student names should be removed to keep in compliance with FERPA guidelines.

*         Acculturation Quick Screen* (sample attached)

*         Copy of the LEA's home language survey

Additional items that will be beneficial for participants to bring are:

*         Attendance records

*         Available family or cultural surveys

*         Progress monitoring

*         Teachers and parents comments/concerns

*         Interventions attempted or in progress

The student information each participant brings will guide the discussion on specific student cases, and will help tailor the RTI implementation for each diverse learner.
