UtahFutures and the USBE Comprehensive Counseling are excited to introduce the updated "Student Guide for Career & Education Planning using UtahFutures" curriculum. This curriculum will be delivered by counselors, to students in grades 7-12, through one 45-minute lesson each year.
The guide may look familiar to those of you who have used UtahFutures in the past. However, the content has been updated and redesigned for easier use and less repetition from year-to-year. Thanks to counselor feedback throughout the state, UtahFutures has built this guide as a support in meeting college and career readiness needs of Utah students today. It guide can be found on the UtahFutures OnRamp under the Training tab or by visiting this link: http://utahfuturesonramp.org/planning/ . You will see that this page is an html, thus allowing you to click on the links to readily access lesson plans and UtahFutures activities. This also allows UtahFutures to make updates to lesson plans and links as the tool is enhanced with other features in the future.
What you should know about the new guide
The new guide includes a 45-minute lesson plan for each grade EXCEPT for 7th grade. The 7th grade lesson is covered in the current CDA lessons. Each lesson plan includes supporting worksheets, presentations, and videos. These support materials are provided to help you get started. Modifications can be made to each lesson to fit your students or your personality. Modifications should not be made to the curriculum, but rather the delivery of the curriculum. For example: You have a fun BINGO game to review Financial Aid and would like to use it with 8th grade students instead of playing Kahoot.
Training will be offered to help counselors become familiar with UtahFutures and the lesson plans for each grade. On-site training will begin in September for schools in the Davis, Salt Lake, and Utah County areas. Training for Tooele School District will be offered at Techtoberfest on October 7th. If you are outside of these areas and would like training in September, two webinars will be offered. On-site training for schools outside of the Wasatch Front will be coordinated based on need in each area, due to travel time and expenses. Please coordinate with other schools in your district/area and send Jami Gardner an email ( jgardner at uen.org<mailto:jgardner at uen.org>) with possible dates. IMPORTANT: On-site training will be 2.0 hours. You must have a minimum of 7 participants for an on-site training session. Please consider joining your on-site training with nearby middle schools or high schools. This will free up training sessions for other schools. Webinars can be attended individually.
Only ONE person needs to register for On-site training at each location. Webinars can be joined individually.
