Subject: Bullying/Cyberbullying Request for Funding

Superintendents, Charter School Directors, Prevention Contacts;

This e-mail is to make you aware of the funding opportunity for schools within your school district or charter school. HB 364 sponsored by Representative Steve Eliason provided funding for anti-bullying training programs or resources. With this funding the Legislature intends that the State Board of Education: 1) expend appropriations to implement programs and trainings to address bullying and cyberbullying; and 2) make up to $1,500 available to each requesting school, for the school to choose a program for training or resources from a Utah-based organization that is tax exempt under Section 501 (c) (3), Internal Revenue Code, and that is focused on programs and training addressing bullying and cyberbullying.
The total funding for this purpose is $175,000. To be eligible for funds, I have attached the Bullying / Cyberbullying Prevention Request for Funding. Schools, School Districts, and Charter Schools that are interested in this opportunity must complete this application and submit it electronically. The due date to submit an application is June 15, 2015 at 5:00 PM. Please be timely in your application submission as funds will be awarded to eligible schools submitting a complete application on a first come first received basis until all funds have been exhausted. Please make each school within your school district aware of this funding opportunity; and if they are interested in being considered for funding as part of the school district's application, they must be listed on the school district's application.

A school within a school district may apply for an award under this request for funding independent of the school's district application. If a district school applies for an award independent of the school's school district, the school district may not include the school as part of the school district's application.

Whereas many schools have already implemented prevention activities related to prevention of substance abuse, gangs, bullying, suicide etc. we are asking in the application for a school district, charters school, or school to state how this funding will be used for its intended purpose and initiate, strengthen, or enhance current bullying and cyberbullying components of the LEA's comprehensive prevention program.

As stated before funding is intended for schools to choose a program for training or resources from a Utah-based 501(c)(3) organization. As you put the application together you will need to contact organizations that meet this definition to determine what program for training or resources are available which would support your prevention efforts and meet the intent of the legislation.

In completing the Request for Funding application please make sure all necessary descriptions of narrative and budget pages are completed.

If you have any questions regarding this information please don't hesitate to get in touch with me.
We hope you will consider applying and look forward to your application.
