This is not a space UEN has traditionally been in. What are your thoughts? Is this a space where UEN might be able to help get pricing down? Is there enough agreement among LEAs for a single or multiple award? How does your district fund this?

I am going to assume it would need to be a multiple award. Districts fund this in a variety of ways. Most LEAs have some sort of keyboarding software.

Nebo uses TypingPal, with district subscription for all 4th and 5th graders. There are others that are not paid that are used starting in 3rd grade, but the district view is that most software does not teach the way we want -- we use finger families, rather than top/middle/bottom row keys.

I think there could be some benefits because the USBE requirement is unfunded. If there was a standardized platform, maybe USBE could leverage it to make things more streamlined. We were using DTL funds, but it sounds like those are likely to be cut this legislative session.
I’m planning to do an RFP soon for a product.

We pursue free options for this but would definitely consider a better alternative if reduced pricing were available.

I'd echo what we've been hearing from others. We currently use free versions of typing software, but would certainly be interested in looking into alternatives.

Thank you, everyone, for your feedback. I will take this to the UEN leadership for discussion. Since these items take a while to process on our end, I would suggest you go ahead with what you have planned, and I will keep you updated.
Also, we are proceeding with an RFP for Google Education software. This will take a long time, but hopefully by this time next year we will have something. I will keep you posted. There are many items happening in the state legislature that could change the landscape in the next few months.
Cheers,
