Thank you for sharing this and for the opportunity to take a look.
Given our current timeline and commitments, I think we need to move forward with our plans for Canvas Studio. At this point, we don’t have the flexibility to adopt or pilot a beta solution for next year—especially while we’re asking our teachers to transition
fully to Studio over the summer. Not a lot of grace offered to us by some members of our community - we need to get this as right as we possibly can next year.
That said, we appreciate the work you’re doing here and would definitely be interested in staying connected as the product matures. Please keep us in mind as it evolves.
We could show you something but it is very beta. It is not going to have all the bells and whistles that you have in Studio. Basically it is an LTI where the teacher copy and pastes the YouTube URL and then it embeds it in Canvas. It is just taking out the
ads and suggested videos. Let me know what you want to do.

Is there anyway we could get a demo of the YouTube Education Player in Canvas next week? We have to make a purchasing decision on Canvas Studio for next year in the next 2 weeks.

Thanks Ryan,
Let me know. I think Davis getting on board with be a big step in getting this moving forward. I know you all have Canvas Studio so there might be less interest in doing this. Let me know if you have any questions.

Davis may be interested. We're currently planning to block YouTube next year unless a teacher clears a video through Canvas Studio.

Subject: [Software-advisory-k12] YouTube Education Player Beta Group
Hi,
We are currently seeking a small group of districts to participate in a beta rollout of the YouTube Education Player in Canvas. This pilot would involve installing a Canvas LTI integration and providing feedback on functionality and classroom use.
To move forward with licensing, we need to reach a minimum threshold of approximately 208,000 student licenses across participating districts.
If you’re open to participating, we’d appreciate your input on a few questions:
-
Would your district be interested in joining the beta rollout?
-
Would you be willing to contribute financially toward the initial licensing required for the pilot? (Estimated at approximately $0.12 per student.) If so, approximately how many student licenses would you anticipate purchasing?
-
If the pilot is successful, would your district be interested in continuing with a full license?
Please let me know if you’d like additional details or have any questions.
Cheers,
