On Thursday, May 2 & Friday May 3, the Utah State Board of Education met and discussed Sensitive Materials legislation & Board Rule R277-628: School Libraries. No Action was taken, except to move the item to the June 6th board meeting.

Good morning Utah School Librarians and Library Program Directors!

 

On Friday, April 5 @ 9:15 am, the Standards and Assessment committee will be discussing Board Rule R277-628: School Libraries (agenda item #6) and possible changes for compliance of HB29.  The agenda and draft rule can be found on USBE Civics Clerk.  By selecting Ctrl + F, and then typing "R277-628" in the search bar, you can find those materials quickly. 

 

I know many of you are leaders in your schools when it comes to AI, so you may also be interested the proposed AI Framework (agenda item #3) also in  Standards and Assessment committee.

The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, April 4, beginning at 9 a.m. at the board’s office, 250 East 500 South, Salt Lake City, Utah. Those wishing to provide public comment at the meeting should send their request to publiccomment@schools.utah.gov. Written public comments can be sent to board@schools.utah.gov at any time. 

 

Board committees will meet sequentially beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, April 5. Finance Committee will only be online. Those who want to comment on committee agenda items should email the secretary of the committee they wish to address before the meeting. Public comment will be at the discretion of the committee chairs. Finance Committee begins at 7:30 a.m., and Law and Licensing Committee will meet at 9 a.m., and Standards and Assessment Committee will meet at 9:15 a.m. All meetings will be streamed online. Following committee meetings, the full board will convene at 1 p.m. as the governing board for the Utah Schools of the Deaf and the Blind. At 2 p.m., the board will address any unfinished business from the previous day’s agenda.
