Dear Utah School Librarians,

Below you will find important information regarding the legislation and board rule that affect school libraries.  I will be offering office hours next week to help answer any questions and concerns you may have.  See below for those dates and times.

R277-628 Amended

On Friday, June 7, the Utah State Board of Education amended Board Rule R277-628 to support HB29. HB29 is effective on July 1, 2024.  Board Rule is effective after the Public Notice period; however, attached is a copy of the amended rule for reference as you review and revise your policies.

LEA-Appointed Representative

Each LEA(district or charter) has designated one representative to report sensitive material challenges to USBE and that LEA-appointed representative will receive the USBE form for reporting their challenges.  

Resources

The following resources have been created to support implementation of both HB29 & Board Rule R277-628.  They will be housed under Statutes and Rules on the USBE website after they are adapted for ADA compliance.
