Good evening,
In April 2023, the Utah State Board of Education approved new P-12 English Language Arts standards<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yz1hZqB-VE3hu03mdOcc-vIxRz_01XPI/edit?u…>. In May 2023, the Board approved the Implementation Plan (attached). This implementation plan can be used to guide implementation at each level (teacher, district/charter, and state). We recommend reviewing this implementation plan as a resource/guide for implementation within your districts, charters, and schools. One of the key components to this implementation plan is state-level professional learning on these new standards.
As we begin the implementation of the new English Language Arts Standards, we are providing 7 sessions in various locations throughout the state and one virtual option. In these optional sessions, educators and leaders will receive an overview of these new standards. In addition to these overview opportunities, more specific office hours will be held monthly throughout the 23-24 school year as support for standard-specific questions. Once the office hours have been scheduled, additional information will be sent out. Attendance at these professional learning sessions and office hours are completely optional.
For additional details and information on the dates, times, and MIDAS course sign up, please see the attached flyer titled, "ELA Standards PL Flyer". In the flyer, you can click the "register now" button, at the bottom, which will also take you to the MIDAS course to sign up. Registration for each session will close a week prior to the session in order to arrange logistics or cancel if not enough participants are registered.
Please share this email widely across your district or charter. We appreciate your support in sharing these opportunities with your educators as you see fit.
